Rachel

The owner and Managing Director of Select Travel Holidays, Rachel has been in travel since she was 16. She started out working for her dad's tour operator, Travelscene, and throughout her long career in the industry, she has not only picked up a lot of experience and knowledge, but she's picked up a number of specialist consultants who handpicked to become part of her team at Select Travel Holidays; Rachel and Julie first worked together in the 1980s at Pickfords Travel (formerly Harry Leeks Travel)!

A lot of her history in travel is the story of Select Travel Holidays. When Rachel started as manager at Cruise Select back in 1999, it was tiny; in fact, she would work on a picnic table! She soon built up connections with all the cruise lines, building up the business along with it, and gaining industry recognition, winning awards and even being a finalist for Best National Small Cruise Agency award at the Agent Achievement Awards three times. Soon, she was joined by a 16-year-old Shelley, who has remained with us ever since.

In December 2006, Rachel took the step to buy Cruise Select for herself, initially moving the business to her home, and gradually Julie and Tracey joined the team. By April 2009, the team moved to offices on Goldington Road in Bedford, which had the facility for a dedicated cruise lounge for clients to drop in to meet a cruise specialist face-to-face. In 2013, the Select Travel Group was launched, delivering amazing travel experiences - other than cruises - to our clients, whilst staying true to our core service standards, and by 2015, Rachel decided to open up a shop on Bedford' Mill Street, closer to the town centre, rebranding as Select Travel Holidays - and the rest, as they say is history.

Rachel is a passionate traveller - it runs in the blood - and especially loves visiting Asia. Burma is quite possibly her favourite country, although India comes a very close second. She's written a guide to Burma for clients based on her experiences, so feel free to request your complimentary copy.
