This 'Best of Egypt' small group adventure does exactly what it says on this tin: showcases the best Egypt has to offer! Tick off all the most iconic sites, from the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx to the Valleys of the Kings and Queens and the great temples of Karnak and Luxor, whilst also enjoying sailing on a traditional felucca and a fascinating insight into local life in a Nubian village, and a traditional lunch with a local family

Itinerary

Day One - Cairo

The 'Best of Egypt' tour begins in the historic and bustling Egyptian capital of Cairo, where this evening you'll meet your fellow travellers and Chief Experience Officer (CEO) at an evening welcome meeting. You're free to arrive at any point and enjoy some time at leisure before hand, perhaps exploring the city.

Days Two to Four - Aswan

Your Egyptian adventure begins with one of the greatest of the Egyptian treasures: the world-famous Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, as you head straight to the pyramids. Your CEO is a qualified Egyptologist, and will be on hand to give you all the facts and mysteries of these magnificent structures on a guided tour, before a tour of the Egyptian Museum, which showcases over 10,000 pieces throughout Egyptian history, including the famous treasures of Tutankhamun. In the evening, you'll hop a board a sleep train, arriving in the city of Aswan on day three.

You'll have plenty of time on day three to explore Aswan, before visiting a Nubian village on Elephantine Island for a fascinating insight into local life, boarding a local boat (known as a felucca) along the Nile and enjoying views of the Aga Khan Mausoleum and Kitchener Island. As you walk through the village and fields, you'll learn about the daily life of the Nubian people and savour some delicious traditional food with dinner at a local home. Day four is free for you to continue your explorations of Aswan, including the nearby Philae Temple, or an optional visit to the iconic twin temples of Abu Simbel.

Day Five - Kom Ombo

You'll spend the day today sailing the Nile on a felucca, watching the scenery glide by as you travel down the river. As this is an overnight sailing excursion, tonight you'll sleep onboard under the stars, before docking the following morning.

Days Six and Seven - Luxor

This morning begins with a guided visit of the magnificent Kom Ombo temple, which lies on the banks of the Nile and was dedicated to the crocodile god. Remains of an ancient mummified crocodile that was worshipped here thousands of years ago can still be seen. Afterwards, you'll set off for Luxor, stopping en route to visit the famous Karnak Temple, once the beating heart of religious life in ancient Egypt. Karnak's architecture and hieroglyphics are particularly impressive, as it was built and extended by successive generations of rulers. You'll have the day to explore Luxor on day seven, travelling by donkey to visit the Colossi of Memnon, the iconic Temple of Hatshepsut and Valley of the Kings, some of the most famous and historic sites of Egypt. For lunch, you're treated to a traditional lunch with a local family on the West bank of the Nile. You can opt to visit Luxor Temple, the Mummification Museum, or the Tomb of Tutankhamun, at additional cost.

Day Eight - Cairo

Your Egyptian adventure concludes today as you fly back to Cairo, arriving in the afternoon. You're free to depart at any point, which we will be happy to arrange for you.
