Day One - Quito
Arrive at any time, and feel free to explore or relax; nothing's planned until the welcome meeting tonight where you'll meet your Chief Experience Officer (CEO) and fellow travellers, and your Galapagos adventure begins...
Day Two - Puerto Ayora
You'll transfer to the airport for your flight to the Galapagos, arriving at Baltra, from where you'll travel to the hotel in Santa Cruz. Later today you'll be introduced to some of the area's unique wildlife and history with a visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station. At the station, you'll be able to see the famous Galapagos tortoise up close, and land iguanas in captivity, brought back from the brink of extinction. Set up in 1964, the Charles Darwin Research Section works to preserve the unique Galapagos ecosystem, and features a fascinating exhibition centre where you can view photo displays of recent volcanic eruptions, charts outlining geological formations, and drawings of the evolutionary development of endemic species. This evening, meet up with any travellers joining the group during the welcome meeting.
Days Three and Four - Floreana Island
This morning, you'll walk to 'Las Grietas' located across Academy Bay, walking via a rugged cactus forest before arriving at this stunning lagoon. As you're crossing the cactus forest, keep your eyes open for Darwin finches and lava lizards. Fed by the ocean from one end, and a river from the other, Las Grietas is a local swimming hole just perfect for swimming in its cool, vividly blue waters separating two volcanic cliffs. In the afternoon, hop onto a speedboat to head towards Floreana Island where you'll stay in G Adventures-supported community guest houses, and enjoy meals in the community restaurants to help support community tourism on this island. Floreana Island is a small and isolated island in the Galapagos Archipelago with some 150 residents, many of whom have been living here for three generations since the islands were first colonised.
On day four, you have a range of choices to make the most of this beautiful island. Perhaps you'll walk along the black-sand beach until Loberia, where you'll discover an underworld kingdom populated by diverse wildlife as you snorkel straight off the beach, or perhaps you'll choose to head up to Floreana's seldom-visited highlands and hear tales about pirates, whales, seal hunters and buccaneers. Enjoy guided walks to observe birds and wildlife.
Days Five and Six - Isabela Island
Hop back onto the speedboat today for your next Galapagos island, Isabela Island for a two-night stay. Here you'll find SIerra Negra Volcano, which boasts the largest volcanic crater in the archipelago, and what's more - you'll walk around its rim as you hike up to the volcano's summit to enjoy unforgettable bird's-eye views of this astonishing landscape. Continue to the lava fields of Volcano Chico for some more stunning views of the surrounding volcanoes and islands. While on day six, there's some free time in the morning, so perhaps relax or opt to take a wildlife boat excursion to view breeding white-tip reef sharks, marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies, rays and penguins at 'Islote Tintoreras'. Later there's an included visit to the Giant Tortoise Breeding Centre, heading into the forest to view the gentle giants in their natural habitat, where you'll also pass basking iguanas and flamingos. Explore the surroundings and watch the pink flamingos in the wetlands before catching a stunning sunset on the beach - perfect! Afterwards, relax at the bar or on the beach.
Day Seven - Puerto Ayora
Head back to Santa Cruz Island by speedboat, where later you'll enjoy a short walk to the beautiful Tortuga Bay, resplendent with a pristine white beach. Here, why not relax or walk along the mangroves keeping an eye out for local marine iguanas and birdlife, or opt to swim or hire a kayak and life jacket, looking out for the wonderful marine life which inhabit the waters: Tintoreras sharks, sea turtles, manta rays and more.
Day Eight and Nine - Quito
Today you'll return to Baltra for your return flight to Quito, where you'll transfer to your hotel for your overnight stay. There are plenty of things to see and do in Ecuador's capital - just ask your CEO for handy suggestions! To soak up more of the city's atmosphere, why not stay a little longer?
